How should you plan your arrival?
Start with the journey and the final leg to your accommodation. If you are leaving Medellín, read our guide to getting to Jardín and confirm your departure with the bus company before travelling. Leave a gap between the bus and your first activity so you have time for delays, food and finding your way.
Check-in at Isla de Pascua starts at 3 p.m. Message us beforehand if you expect to arrive earlier or late so we can confirm the arrangements for that day. Save the address and directions before setting off, especially if you will not have mobile data.
Should you book a dorm or a private room?
A dorm lets you book a single bed and share the space with other travellers. A private room may suit you if you prefer to sleep without sharing the room. When deciding where to stay in Jardín, check the bathroom too: a private room does not always mean a private bathroom.
Our mixed dorm has 16 beds in 8 bunk beds, in one room arranged in sections of 4, 4, 4, 2 and 2 beds. The shared dorm bathrooms are inside the sleeping room.
The private room sleeps up to 4 guests and can be arranged with 4 single beds or 2 double beds. It has no private bathroom; there are 5 shared bathrooms next door. Guests share the kitchen. If you want the private room for yourself, compare its total room price with the price of one dorm bed for your dates.
How can you meet people when travelling alone?
Shared spaces offer an easy place to start, but every moment does not need to become a group plan. Ask someone in the kitchen what they are doing tomorrow, suggest a coffee or ask about an outing that already has participants. Leave room for the things you came to do on your own too.
Parque El Libertador in central Jardín is another place to sit with a coffee and watch the town go by. If you want to visit a coffee farm, ask the operator whether you can join a group, what one person pays and how to get there. A simple plan for two nights

- First afternoon: arrive, check in and get to know the kitchen, your room and the route into town. Have a coffee without adding a timed excursion.
- Full day: choose one outing you are interested in, such as a coffee farm visit or birdwatching. Confirm the guide, meeting point, transport and price before paying.
- Final morning: have breakfast and leave time for departure. Confirm check-out and your return transport without depending on another traveller having the same itinerary.
What to check before you book
Compare the same dates, number of guests and room type. A dorm booking is for a bed; a private-room booking is for the room. Review the total including taxes, cancellation terms and payment method during booking. A price shown in a photo or guide may not be the available rate for your trip.
Before heading onto rural trails, ask about route conditions, weather and whether you need a guide. Save directions and let someone know your plan.
